The Shakopee School District Personnel Committee decided on three finalists to bring forward in the interim superintendent hiring process.

All three are current superintendents in different school districts; the Shakopee district has not released their names.

Their identities will be released when the finalists accept the option to move forward and have a chance to communicate with their districts about the possibility of leaving.

Members discussed bringing two finalists to the board but ultimately decided on bringing three.

"I'll be shocked if someone doesn't rise to the top," Human Resources Director Keith Gray said.

One candidate has been a superintendent since 2013, another since 2011 and the third since 2015.

If the candidates choose to move forward in the process, a public interview with the Shakopee School Board will be held July 20 during a special meeting. Though the public is not allowed to participate, they will be able to watch.

A decision would likely not be made that evening, but there would be a discussion, Personnel Committee Chair and School Board Member Shawn Hallett said.

The board will also look for input from staff before making a decision, School Board member Matt McKeand said.

Former Shakopee Superintendent Rod Thompson resigned June 30 amid a police investigation into his personal use of a district credit card, as reported in a series of Shakopee Valley News stories.
