A Shakopee driver was arrested for vehicular homicide after a head-on collision killed a Des Moines woman on Sunday night.
Kacy Merseal, 29, was traveling west on Highway 19 in a 2008 Volkswagen when Brandon Dellwo, 29, struck her vehicle head on with a Lincoln Navigator while going the wrong way, according to a Minnesota State Patrol report.
Merseal had a passenger, Tanya Marie Von Weine, 30, who was taken to Northfield Hospital with non life-threatening injuries. Both Merseal and Weine were wearing seatbelts.
Dellwo had consumed alcohol, according to the report, and was arrested and jailed in the Rice County Jail for vehicular homicide, according to the Des Moines Register. Dellwo was also taken to Northfield Hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
Merseal's fiance, Vithoun Saysophathe, said she was heading home from a Bruno Mars concert in the Twin Cities, in a statement on Facebook.
"The fact that her last day on Earth was a great day for her is one of the only things keeping me going right now," Saysophathe wrote. "I'm a mix of emotions from being a sad wreck, crying in the corner, to being full of anger and hate towards the piece of garbage that took her away from me."
Merseal was a defense attorney in Des Moines, her fiance said.
Dellwo was booked into the Rice County Jail.
