Racers from across the world were at Canterbury Park in Shakopee last weekend to take part in the 2018 Pirtek Snocross National competition.
Snocross is a combination of snowmobile and motorcross sports. Canterbury Park used tens of thousands of gallons of water to create the man-made snow necessary for the track and jumps. Snocross is generally popular in places where temperatures are regularly below freezing, such as Minnesota, but also countries like Norway and Sweden.
Prior Lake rider Ryley Bester raced in the two-day competition.
“It’s just action-packed,” Bester said. “When you win, it’s the best feeling ever.”
Snocross became an event at the X Games in 1998.
