Highway 13 was temporarily blocked during later afternoon hours Thursday after a van caused a four-vehicle crash.

A brown van entered the intersection near McColl Drive when the light was red, causing another blue van to hit the side of the brown van and run into a blue car, which spun around and hit a semi-truck, bystander Blake Conrad said at the scene of the accident.

“The van just took off,” Conrad said. “The light had been red for about a minute.”

The brown van drove into a ditch, where it began smoking, Conrad said. Firefighters hosed the van and surrounding grass down.

Conrad had been parked at the intersection when the accident occurred.

The driver of the brown van was transported to the hospital. Local residents with medical experience provided some help before first responders arrived, Conrad said.
