The Scott County Historical Society is looking for people who are into hops and history for a brewery tour later this summer.

Participants will board a vintage bus from the Minnesota Transportation Museum, learn about the history of beer and brewing in the county and try beer at Roets Jordan Brewery and Badger Hill Brewery.

The tour will begin at Jordan Brewery on Aug. 19 and last from 3 to 5 p.m.

“We’ve been noticing that there have been so many brew pubs that have been opening in the county and thought it would be fun to go back and look at the history one more time,” Scott County Historical Society Executive Director Kathleen Klehr said.

Klehr will lead the tour. Attendees will hear about modern brewing techniques and how beer used to be made, Klehr said. After all, beer has been consumed for millennia — Shakespeare wrote that a quart of ale is a “dish for a king” in The Winter’s Tale.

Each participant will receive a booklet on the history of brewing in Scott County, Klehr said.

“It’s going to be a lot of fun,” she said.

If you are a person who is not enticed by beer, Klehr said there will also be snacks along the way.

A beer at each brewery is included in the $30 ticket. Tickets can be purchased through the Scott County Historical Society website; registration is required.

Due to federal law, all attendees must be at least 21 years old.
