When someone moves, they discover just how much stuff they have. Boxes and boxes more than originally anticipated.

It's no different for the Shakopee City Hall move.

The Shakopee City Council voted Aug. 2 to declare some city property surplus and sell it.

This surplus includes filing cabinets, desks, cubicle systems, office furniture, office items and more.

"Right now, there are no plans for public sale," Shakopee Communications Coordinator Kristin Doran said.

The city has three options right now for moving the surplus, Doran said: first, looking into companies who would buy all of the equipment. If that doesn't work out, the city could hold an online sale. If staff cannot sell all the equipment online or sell it all to a company, then there would be an in-person sale.

The new Shakopee City Hall opened Monday at 485 Gorman St. The old city hall closed Friday.
