The Lake Nutrition opens in Prior Lake

Two Prior Lake High School graduates opened a nutrition club in Prior Lake on Oct. 11.

Alex Borchardt, who graduated in 2009, and 2018 graduate Torrey Schaff co-own The Lake Nutrition on Franklin Trail. The “nutrition club” sells shakes and teas that can be supplemented with products such as protein powders or energy boosters.

“It’s not a shake shop,” Borchardt said. “You can come hang out, we do weight loss challenges, we do different meetings about nutrition, we do one-on-one health coaching. (Nutrition club) is an all-encompassing term.”

Borchardt and Schaff met while working at a nutrition club in Savage.

“(We were) both born and raised in Prior Lake and saw the want and need here in this community,” Borchardt said.

Borchardt began to think about opening her own nutrition club in February. In June, the pair decided to open the business together and found a space in Prior Lake in August.

“We’re both really young entrepreneurs, so we had no experience as far as Health Department and different state and city regulations and all that,” Borchardt said. “It was a huge learning curve as far as that goes, but there weren’t any major problems we had to deal with.”

The Lake Nutrition has more than 60 shake flavors, which includes a “secret menu” people can ask about. Shakes can also be customized “if people want to try something weird,” Borchardt said. The club also offers a minimum of 20 tea combinations. There are 10 enhancers that can be added to each shake or tea.

“It’s like a community,” Schaff said. “It’s fun to be around. You get to know everyone in your hometown, like-minded people who have the same goals. When they come in, it’s a fun place to hang out.”

The support from the community has been “incredible,” Borchardt said, adding that she left a full-time corporate shop to open the shop.

Schaff said she will be able to attend school while helping to run the club.

“It’s a fun job,” Schaff said. “When I wake up, it’s not like, ‘Oh, I have to go to work again.’”

The Lake Nutrition is open Mondays through Fridays from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays from 9 a.m. to noon. Go to @TheLakeNutrition on Facebook or Instagram for more information.
