The latest episode of ABC’s “The Bachelor” started out with one of the girls named Chelsea talking about why she should get the first one-on-one date with bachelor Arie Luyendyk Jr.
“I think it’s going to sting if my name is not read out loud,” Chelsea said.
Then it must have stung, because it was Prior Lake’s Becca Kufrin’s name that was read.
“I’ve over the moon that Arie wants to start this journey together,” Kufrin said. “I just want to start it and get going and be able to see him and talk to him again.”
The one-on-one date starts with a motorcycle ride across the California countryside. “I want to capture this moment forever, like have it in a painting or a postcard,” Kufrin said.
The pair drive to a home where Kufrin, a 2008 Prior Lake High School graduate, meets fashion designer Rachel Zoe and got to keep, like, 15 dresses as well as Louboutin shoes. Not only that, but the duo dined on lobster and champagne. Kufrin tried on all the dresses to show Luyendyk.
“I mean, honestly, she looked great in everything,” Luyendyk said. “I was like ‘That looks amazing, that looks amazing.’”
After the fashion show at lunch, the two head to a nearby beach where there is yet another surprise — jewelry from designer Neil Lane, who also provides the engagement ring selection at the end of the season.
After Luyendyk helps Kufrin put on the earrings, they share their first kiss.
“Becca definitely lights up the entire room all by herself,” Luyendyk said. “She’s smart, she’s funny and she is stunning.”
During a dinner date later in the evening, Kufrin opened up about the death of her father from brain cancer. He was diagnosed when she was 14.
“I’m proud to say that I got through it with my family,” Kufrin said. “It made my mom and sister and I so close. They are my best friends.”
There was also quite a bit more kissing.
“This feeling right now is what the beginnings of a relationship should feel like,” Kufrin said. “It felt not only comfortable, but right in a certain sense, which is kind of scary because it’s still so new and fresh and it’s just at the beginning — but it felt so good.”
Luyendyk seemed quite impressed with Kufrin as well and ended the date by offering her a rose.
“She’s not afraid to take a risk and be funny and just kind of show herself and I really love that about her,” Luyendyk said. “I’m just blown away.”
The only possible downside is that Kufrin didn’t get to go on the demolition derby group date later. But she will for sure be back for episode three and if television commentator Reality Steve is correct, the rest of the season.
