Another week, another date in the United States for the cast of ABC’s “The Bachelor.” When do the overseas dates start?
Oh, right. Next week.
After the weird outdoor adventure in Lake Tahoe, the girls are rewarded with a beach (or swamp) vacation in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.
And Prior Lake’s Becca Kufrin is loving the change.
“We got up to the penthouse suite and I’m like, ‘my mind is blown,’” Kufrin said. “There’s glass windows all around overlooking the ocean on one side and the city on the other, and it’s so cool.”
Presumably, the women get plenty of time to explore the beaches as bachelor Arie Luyendyk Jr. and Chelsea do a one-on-one date on a yacht. The pair relax in the sun, drink champagne, jet ski and make out while jet skiing.
The group date is bowling, like in a regular bowling alley. The one-on-ones get you parasailing, designer dresses, yacht outings, air boating, etc. Group dates get you eating bugs, almost drinking urine and the image of Luyendyk licking a bowling ball that is truly unforgettable.
They probably sanitized that ball before he did it, but not enough. It could never be enough.
No wonder all the women are jonesing for the one-on-ones.
With Kufrin’s date taking place ages ago, she’s started to feel the heat of competition.
“There was that initial connection on our first date, but that was so long ago now,” Kufrin said. “At this point, I just want more time. I really want another one-on-one.”
The women are split into two bowling teams, the Spare Roses and the Pin Ups. Luyendyk said the winning team will be the only one attending the soiree later that evening and therefore the only team to have a bit more time with him.
Fortunately for Kufrin, she’s on the winning team. However, Luyendyk changes his mind (a thing people have been known to do) and the losing team is allowed to join the after party.
Unfortunately for Kufrin, the rest of the evening is then overtaken by the narrative of one contestant, Krystal, being upset (read: furious) that the losing team was allowed to join.
Krystal got so mad, even, that the show broke the fourth wall by showing some of the producers and cameramen talking to Krystal. That’s how mad.
There were unintended consequences, even for Kufrin.
“I still smell like a bowling ball, this is terrible,” Kufrin said. “I didn’t have time (to shower), I was too busy with the drama. Dammit, Krystal, I couldn’t even shave my legs.”
Kufrin snags some alone time with Luyendyk later in his hotel room.
“It’s hard going week by week and only having 10 to 15 minutes with you,” Kufrin said. “But I do feel comfortable with you.”
Between the beer drinking and the mutually amorous conversation in the hotel room, Kufrin hoped she got the group date rose.
“I would love if Arie gave me the rose,” Kufrin said. “I was his first date and I plan to be his last.”
But alas, the group date rose went to the only Lauren left (the season started out with four).
“I’m very disappointed that Lauren got the rose,” Kufrin said. “I thought our time tonight went well. It’s upsetting, and it hurts a little bit because I still want him to remember that connection that we had.”
Kufrin appears a bit later in the episode, mostly as a reaction to the conversations about Krystal, which gives Kufrans the most epic eye roll they’ve ever seen.
The producers make Luyendyk keep Krystal around despite him saying “this could be our last fight” during one of their conversations and Marikh, Maquel and Ashley are sent home.
But Kufrans can rejoice — Luyendyk offered her a rose during the rose ceremony and she responded with a “duh!” so she’ll be back for the first overseas date to Paris next week.
