A police officer has officially joined the ranks of the Prior Lake Police Department after being sworn in during a Prior Lake City Council meeting on Monday.

The officer, Beau Johnson, joined the department on Aug. 27 and will spend the next 12 weeks in a field training program before joining patrol. Johnson will replace an officer who resigned in February.

Johnson, who grew up in Savage and graduated from Prior Lake High School, has worked in Jackson County for the last six years.

"I've had a chance to spend a number of years in law enforcement and I can tell you it's a new perspective when you can do it in a community that's so close and true to my heart," Johnson said during the meeting.

Mayor Kirt Briggs administered the oath of office to Johnson, who will join 24 other sworn officers at the department.
