A restaurant planned for downtown Prior Lake took another step forward on Monday.
The Prior Lake City Council approved a liquor license and Sunday on-sale license for PLate on Main — a branded, upscale American eatery expected to open in October — during the regular council meeting on Monday evening.
The license will be valid until the end of June 2019, when it will be eligible for renewal. The license cost more than $5,600 in fees for the business.
The license will allow PLate owners to begin purchasing the liquor and doing the necessary training for employees before the restaurant opens, City Manager Frank Boyles said. The license is effective starting at the beginning of October.
In December 2017, the council approved a business subsidy agreement to alleviate some costs of redeveloping a former residential property on Main Avenue into a 3,500-square-foot restaurant with a 725-square-foot patio.
“PLate will be a great addition to our downtown and it’s exactly what the residents asked for in our community survey,” City Council member Zach Braid said.
The restaurant will seat approximately 130 people indoors, with an additional 40 people on the patio. It will be partly owned by Bill and Lori Peterson, with son Andrew Peterson designing the building.
