Filing period open through Aug. 14

Filing for local races opened July 31.


Filing closes Aug. 14 for open seats on the Prior Lake City Council and the Prior Lake-Savage Area School Board. Candidates must file by 5 p.m. on Aug. 14 to be considered. To file to run for the Prior Lake City Council, candidates must complete an affidavit of candidacy form at Prior Lake City Hall, 4646 Dakota St. SE in the city’s finance department and pay a $5 filing fee during regular business hours, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. On the last day of filing, applications will be accepted until 5 p.m.


Two seats will be open on the city council as the terms of council members Mike McGuire and Annette Thompson expire this year. McGuire said he has not decided yet. For school board offices, candidates must file with the school district clerk. Candidates can file at the district office, 4540 Tower St., from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. The filing fee is $2.


As of Monday afternoon, Annette Thompson, Kimberly Churchill, David Tieman and Dave Thompson had filed to run for the open city council seats.


Four seats will be open on the school board, as the terms of school board members Richard Wolf, Stacey Ruelle, Ben Hanson and Todd Sorensen will expire this year.


As of Monday afternoon, Jonathan Drewes, Jason Kwiat, Ajay Mandal, Michael Nelson, Mark Pexa, Ruelle and Andrew Ganfield had filed to run for the open seats on the school board.


To run for Prior Lake City Council and the Prior Lake-Savage Area School Board, candidates must have been a resident for 30 days prior to the election, be a qualified voter, be 21 years old or older and not running for another office in the same election.
