Residents of Prior Lake came together to work their buns with their buns during Bunny Yoga and Hoppy Hour Sept. 9 at Club Prior.
Club Prior Recreation Assistant Lesley Young started the event after seeing a newsletter from a parks and recreation department she used to work for in Colorado with a similar idea.
"I thought to myself, 'I've got two bunnies, I would love to do something like that,'" Young said.
Young then contacted the Minnesota Companion Rabbit Society, who agreed to partner and send volunteers and rabbits to the event, in addition to Young's two bunnies.
But, as rabbits tend to do, the number multiplied as yoga participants emailed Young to register and asked if they could bring their own rabbits.
The class had 22 rabbits and 19 participants.
"We had a ton of rabbits," Young said. "They were all over Club Prior."
Bunnies prefer softer floors so participants lined their mats with blankets and were also provided with an envelope of bunny treats. And yes, there is a rabbit pose in yoga and yes, that was one of the poses during the class.
The volunteers from the Minnesota Companion Rabbit Society cleaned up any messes which occurred.
The bunnies were able to socialize afterwards during the Hoppy Hour, which featured activities for the rabbits including a sand pit for digging, a carpet to play on, a couch and hay to munch on.
Young said the event was the most popular she's put on so far at Club Prior and will definitely do it again in the future — maybe as early as winter, but definitely one around Easter.
A portion of the registration fee went to benefit the Minnesota Companion Rabbit Society. Blue Bunny (the ice cream) and Oxbow Animal Health also partnered on the event.
