A new hair salon opened on Duluth Avenue in Prior Lake on Tuesday.

Savage residents Mel and Steve Wikner decided to open the Brixton Hue Salon after noticing that some southwest metro residents traveled to the cities for trendier cuts.

“We felt there was a need for a salon in this area,” Mel said. “I think there’s not a lot of options for people up this way.”

The couple began to casually research locations. Through mutual connections with the landlord, Mel and Steve found the location on Duluth Avenue.

“We’ve been looking at places we could possibly go, and this was a good opportunity for a great location,” Steve said. “We had to jump on it.”

Brixton Hue Salon is adjacent to Lakeside Family Eye Care and Olson Dental.

“We like the whole idea that it’s family-owned businesses that we are a part of,” Steve said. “It’s even more exciting with all the new construction on the road here, and there’s going to be a lot of changes that I think will help in general with downtown Prior Lake to bring more activity to the area.”

Mel had worked in a hair salon in Minneapolis for more than 10 years but wanted to open her own salon that focused keeping up with trends. Stylists will do hands-on training each season on a new trend.

“Besides hiring great stylists to do great hair, first and foremost, it’s to create a good, new, fresh environment that people are going to want to come to and be a part of,” Steve said.

Brixton Hue Salon will offer Davines and L’anza products, all of which are meant to be more environmentally sustainable.

“We set ourselves apart by overall having an environment where people feel they’re a part of something,” Mel said. “We’re giving that great customer service and experience.”

Brixton Hue Salon offers most hair care services — cuts, colors, blowouts, straighteners — and facial waxing. Go to brixtonhuesalon.com for more information, or call 952-447-1400 to make an appointment.
